My economics teachers in college used to always tell me, “there is no such thing as free lunch. My teachers must have never played golf at Bear Creek Golf Club because there is such thing as a free lunch! Bear Creek distinguishes themselves from the competition on the island by offering complementary lunch and a drink with your round, incredible! You can find this wonderful Reece Jones design at the northern tip of the island in Hilton Head Plantation. Bear Creek is a tough track with no shortage of doglegs and water holes. The front nine has water hazards in play on every single hole, and the back nine has water in come into play on the majority of holes as well. Bear Creek is tough yet fair, offering a lot of risk reward for aggressive play. Hit it perfect you are going to have a great birdie or eagle look, but spray it just a hair and you will find yourself in a water hazard taking a stroke penalty. The course is a challenging yet fair distance, playing 6,804 from the tips. Bear Creek offers tight tee shot windows with trees lining the tee boxes, yet has pretty open fairways. A great course for all skill levels as it offers a tough test for the low handicappers but the open fairways desired by high handicappers. Course was in great conditions, with the fairways well manicured, tee boxes well maintained, and green side bunkers that are well taken care of. The greens were in great shape and are some of the fastest I’ve played on the island. My only critique is the fairway bunkers were not as good of condition as the green side bunkers. The practice area is awesome with plenty of space, a nice albeit small short game area with a bunker and a putting green. Bear Creek is one of the best bargains on the island. Less than $100 in the early morning July 4th Weekend is a phenomenal bargain, add a free lunch and drink with the round and it is a steal! The staff was very friendly offering great service. I truly appreciate the touches Bear Creek makes to make the players experience a unique one on Hilton Head Island.
