Old South Golf Links, this mainland Clyde Johnson design incorporates the beautiful Lowcountry landscape into a phenomenal golf track. Just minutes off the island in Bluffton, Old South offers a great golf escape for someone looking to step off the island for a few hours. Not too long of a course playing at 6,772 from the tips, Old South requires precise ball striking. The course features two par 4’s, one on the front and one on the back, where you have to hit your drive over marshland on to a secluded fairway, then hit your approach shot over more marshland to a secluded green, surrounded by, you guessed it, more marshland! All this concentration while trying to take in the beautiful views of the McKay’s Creek. The greens are some of the fastest I’ve played in the area and run very true. The course is in solid condition. One green had a poa annua problem but even that was on the fringes of the green. Bunkers, tee boxes and fairways were in good shape and well maintained. Old South offers a large driving range and putting/chipping green for all your practice needs. At $77 in the early morning Old South is arguably the best bargain in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area. If you want to replay the course, Old South offers a great replay special at $35 for 18 holes. If you are a Beaufort County resident the rate is $52, what a steal!
